My name is Abby Meyer (she/her) and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Waterloo, IA with experience working with individuals, families, and children - ages 4 - 10. I strive to provide an environment dedicated to instilling hope and building strengths.

Family dynamics and relationships can be challenging, which is why, when working with children, I will also be working with their parents. My primary focus is on parent-child work, emphasizing the importance of building secure attachment, attunement, and effective parenting skills. I believe that strong, positive relationships between parents and children are foundational to emotional well-being. Through collaborative work with both children and parents, we work together to help families create a nurturing environment that supports emotional regulation, coping skills, and trauma processing.

In parent-only sessions, I provide psychoeducation on topics such as attachment, trauma, and child development. We work together to equip parents with the necessary tools to respond to their child’s emotional needs while strengthening the parent-child bond.

Using a Systems Theory lens, my goal is to work with each client system to create everlasting change. I understand everyone is unique which is why I utilize various therapeutic approaches including Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as techniques and interventions from play therapy to help my younger clients meet their goals. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment concerns, behavioral concerns, parenting stressors, life stressors and transitions, low self esteem, and relationship concerns.

Everyone deserves a safe space to explore themselves and I would be honored to be on this journey with you and your loved ones.
